Bolivian President Postpones Boston Appearance

The Bolivian Embassy has just announced that President Evo Morales must postpone his trip to Boston indefinitely.

Massachusetts regional press will be alerted as soon as the event is rescheduled.

Please do not send journalists to cover the previously announced Tuesday 7 p.m. event at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston--as it has been canceled.

Washington, DC, febrero 22, 2008

La Embajada de la República de Bolivia lamenta comunicar que la visita del Presidente Evo Morales Ayma a las ciudades de Providence y Boston, programada para el día martes 26 de febrero próximo, ha sido suspendida.

El Presidente, a través de la Cancillería de la República, ha comunicado a esta Embajada que razones ajenas a su voluntad, relacionadas con circunstancias y responsabilidades que le exigen permanecer en Bolivia en la fecha señalada, lo han obligado a tomar la decisión de suspender su visita.

La Cancillería también ha encomendado a esta Embajada manifestar a los directivos de la Universidad de Brown de Providence y a las organizaciones sociales de Boston, anfitriones de la visita, y a todos los hermanos y hermanas de la Comunidad Boliviana de esas ciudades, las más expresivas disculpas por la suspensión de la misma y asegurar que, en el futuro inmediato y por pedido expreso del señor Presidente, se acordará una nueva fecha para la realización del programa previsto.

La Embajada, por su parte, agradece la extraordinaria calidez y amabilidad de todas aquellas personas que contribuyeron a planear y organizar la visita, y manifiesta su firme compromiso por hacer posible, en breve plazo, el encuentro con el Compañero Presidente.
